Ms Letitia Amengor and Ms Faustina Amoako, paediatric nurses from Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana, spent a month at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. Three weeks were spent observing and learning about the care provided in paediatric oncology, hosted by Prof. Alan Davidson and team. Letitia and Faustina were awarded funding for the learning visit through the My Child Matters initiative run by the Sanofi Espoir Foundation.

The Child Nurse Practice Development Initiative team were delighted to host these two accomplished nurses for the fourth week of their visit, during which time Letitia and Faustina were able to observe the commencement of specialist children’s nursing teaching for 2017. The relationship between Ghana and the Child Nurse Practice Development Initiative is strong, with four specialist child or child critical care nurses trained through the programme and working back in Ghana to date, and another training with us this year.

Letitia and Faustina work as part of the team led by oncologist Professor Lorna Renner at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. We wish them well as they return to Ghana ready to make a difference to the care of children with cancer. You can read more about the partnership between CNPDI and Ghana here.
