Angela Leonard attends Commonwealth Nursing Conference
CNPDI team member Angela Leonard was privileged to attend the 3rd Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Conference in the UK in March. The theme of the conference was ‘Toward 2020: celebrating nursing and midwifery leadership’. Angela gave an oral presentation titled: ‘Making the unseen practice of nursing visible – insights from Uganda’.
Angela told us: “My presentation was really well received. The questions showed that delegates had grasped the presentation and were interested to further explore certain aspects.” Angela was honoured that Professor Mary Chiarella (The Professor of Nursing at Sydney Nursing School, University of Sydney) was the keynote speaker and attended her presentation. In her keynote address: ‘Nursing and midwifery leadership: 200 years of making the extraordinary ordinary’, Prof Chiarella had asked ‘How do we make good nursing care visible?’ and encouraged nurses to spend more time researching what works well rather than what goes wrong.
We are so happy to see connections between the mission of CNPDI, Angela’s own work, and the international nursing community. Angela will carry on the conversations that began in London, and we look forward to seeing her paper in print soon.
