Inpatient Event

Inpatient event world heart Day

The Children's Heart Disease Research Unit (CHDRU) hosted a special cardiac inpatient event providing support to families and children affected by heart disease. During the event, informative leaflets were distributed to help educate attendees on their child’s diagnosis and treatments in paediatric cardiology. To promote heart health and foster a sense of community, apples were distributed to encourage healthy eating, while awareness bracelets were provided as a symbol of solidarity.

In addition to the educational aspect, the event featured a fun and engaging painting session in the hospital's playroom. Children were encouraged to express themselves creatively with music, colouring books, and activity sheets, creating a positive and therapeutic atmosphere. The event provided a much-needed opportunity for families to come together, share experiences, and raise awareness about the importance of heart health in children.

Outpatient Event

World Heart Day Colouring Books

The Children's Heart Disease Research Unit (CHDRU) held a cardiac outpatient event focused on education, awareness, and community connection. The event featured engaging talks by cardiologists, who shared valuable insights into congenital heart disease care. Their talks aimed to help families better understand treatment options, long-term management, and the importance of early detection.

Adding a deeply personal touch, two congenital heart disease (CHD) patients spoke about their experiences growing up with CHD. They offered heartfelt stories and practical advice on living positively with the condition, inspiring both patients and families alike.

Throughout the event, attendees received informative leaflets about heart health, along with apples and awareness arm bands promoting healthy living and continued advocacy for children with heart conditions. Parents were encouraged to have their blood pressure checked to show that heart disease can happen to anyone at any age. The day served as a meaningful opportunity to learn, share experiences, and strengthen the support network for children and families affected by heart disease.

Staff Event

The Children's Heart Disease Research Unit (CHDRU) took part in the annual Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Staff Relay Race with two energetic Zumba sessions, aligning with the World Heart Day theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat.” The initiative aimed to promote movement and physical activity as key elements of maintaining a healthy heart.

Staff members enthusiastically joined in the Zumba sessions, which added a lively and engaging twist to the day’s events. The upbeat music and dance routines encouraged participants to get active, have fun, and be reminded of the importance of regular exercise for cardiovascular health.

By incorporating fitness and fun, CHDRU’s involvement helped reinforce the message that heart health begins with movement — whether through dancing, walking, or other forms of exercise. The event successfully combined awareness, teamwork, and wellness, inspiring everyone to keep their hearts strong and “don’t miss a beat.”
