CHD Awareness Week 2022
Did you know that:
- Every 5 minutes 10 children are born with congenital heart disease.
- 1 in 4 of those will be considered a critical CHD, meaning the baby will need surgery in the first year of life.
- Of all birth defects, congenital heart defects are the leading cause of infant illness and death.
- Only 1 in 10 children around the world has access to the care they need.
Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Awareness Week is celebrated annually from February 7th - 14th and aims to to bring attention to a condition that affects nearly 1 in 100 babies born every year. The week also serves to honour those born with heart defects while also recognising the health care workers who care for them.
This year we are shining a spotlight on those who have survived and thrived with CHD through a series of patient stories. Keep an eye out for these upcoming stories and remember to wear red this CHD awareness week!
