It is with great sadness that we announce, Dr Babs Mostert, who was in charge of OPD at Red Cross for many years, passed away on Sunday, August 4th following a short illness.

Professor John Lawrenson, head of UCT’s division of paediatric cardiology, wrote the following tribute to her:

“Dr Mostert was part of the special team of sessional doctors in cardiology and worked for free from 2016 until January this year. She was loved by us for her kindness; she was respected by all for her superb clinical skills. Many patients and (inexperienced cardiologists) owe a debt to Babs for recognising that things ‘weren’t going to plan’ in a patient after apparent corrective surgery or insisting that a patient would be better off having surgery sooner rather than later. We shall miss her smile and the many happy discussions about cricket and tennis.”
