Division of Cell Biology
Scientists in Cell Biology have variety of research focuses including cancer, neuronal development, synaptic signalling in the brain, stem cell organoid modelling, and the ultrastructure of the blood brain barrier.
Cancer Biology
We study the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer with a view to developing novel treatment strategies.

Welcome to the Division of Cell Biology.
The Division is part of the Department of Human Biology within the Faculty of Health Sciences, at the University of Cape Town. The Division of Cell Biology is focussed on teaching and research of normal cellular processes and how they are altered in disease.
This includes the study of cancer, neuronal development and regeneration, synaptic signalling in the brain, stem cell organoid modelling, the ultrastructure of the blood brain barrier, and the identification of novel therapeutic approaches to treat a wide range of diseases from cancer to epilepsy. The Division also conducts research into curriculum development and medical education.
