Deon Minnies
Deon Minnies is a public health management consultant, advisor and trainer in planning, monitoring, evaluation, and development of health services in health programs for people with disabilities. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health from the University of Cape Town. He is the Director of the Community Eye Health Institute in the Division of Ophthalmology at the University of Cape Town, South Africa (UCT-CEHI), where he is (amongst others) responsible for the organisation and teaching of the Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Public Health in Community Eye Health, as well as the portfolio of the "Strengthening Public Health Services" courses. He has trained several teams in Africa and Asia to conduct Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) surveys and manages several NGO-funded capacity development projects, including the Simulation Ophthalmic Training (SOS) Programme and the exciting Childhood Blindness Registry pilot project.
