Exciting News: New Zebrafish Aquatics System Secured!
The Institute is incredibly excited to announce that Assoc Prof. Gasnat Shaboodien and her collaborators have successfully secured funding from the University Equipment Committee (UEC) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) for a state-of-the-art zebrafish benchtop aquatics system!
This significant acquisition, valued at R1.1 million, marks a major step forward for the zebrafish unit here at the Cape Heart Institute (CHI). This advanced system is designed to substantially increase our unit's research throughput and collaborative capabilities. By accommodating multiple investigators simultaneously, it will broaden access to specialised aquatic research facilities and enable the initiation of a wider array of projects. Furthermore, its optimised design is anticipated to drastically reduce the labour associated with zebrafish husbandry, thereby improving operational efficiency and allowing researchers to allocate more time to scientific enquiry. This acquisition is poised to accelerate discovery and strengthen collaborations and research output within our unit.
