Statins Help Reduce Inflammation in Chronic Disease

Statins are widely known for lowering cholesterol, but they also have other benefits—especially in reducing inflammation. While many studies have shown these broader effects, few have looked specifically at how well statins reduce inflammation in people with chronic illnesses. In this study, we reviewed and analyzed results from over two decades of clinical trials to see how statins affect inflammation and cholesterol levels in these patients. We found that statins significantly lowered key markers of inflammation, including IL-6, TNF-α, and CRP.
Among all statins, atorvastatin had the strongest impact on reducing IL-6 and TNF-α, especially when taken for more than four months. Fluvastatin was most effective at lowering CRP, and rosuvastatin best reduced LDL cholesterol. In short, statins not only help manage cholesterol but also reduce inflammation, especially with long-term use. These findings support the potential of statins to help manage chronic diseases by reducing both inflammation and cholesterol levels.
