The Cape Heart Institute welcomed Grade 10 biology students from Rallim Secondary School on Monday 31 July. A tour of our institute formed part of their new curriculum on circulatory systems. The group did contain one familiar face – their teacher, Ms Nicky Saacks, is a CHI graduate. “It was such a surreal experience being back at the lab and being able to share my passion for genetics and research with my students. It was also so lovely to see so many familiar friendly faces and all that they are accomplishing in the world of research!” said Nicky.

“To be able to go and visit the labs and the people working in them, learning things that you wouldn’t usually learn in textbooks, and meeting people at the forefront of South Africa’s medical innovation is truly a magnificent experience and I am so glad I was able to be there.” added Cameron Petrie.

“To see the lab in person was way different from my imagination. You could see the hard work towards the projects and seeing how all sorts of things are discovered about the world!” commented Natara Munian.  “It was very exciting to see the interesting research that [CHI does] and their dedication to their work.”  concluded classmate Ana Thetard.
