Congratulations to Prof Mark Engel

The Cape Heart Institute (CHI) congratulates Mark Engel on his recent promotion to Full Professor of Medicine. Prof Engel leads the AFROStrep project and is part of the Partnerships for Children with Heart Disease in Africa (PROTEA) research group at the CHI.

His primary research interest is rheumatic heart disease, with his work seeking to better understand the clinical, epidemiological and molecular characteristics of Group A streptococcal infection in Africa. He and Prof Thienemann are also organising the inaugural PASCAR Clinical Research Training Seminar to be held at the CHI later this month (see full curriculum).
