Dr Shivani Singh

Senior Specialist Anatomical Pathologist - Senior Lecturer

Dr Shivani Singh is a senior specialist anatomical pathologist with the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) and a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town. She obtained her MBChB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2008) and completed both the FC Path (Anatomical Pathology) and MMed (Anatomical Pathology) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2017). 

After internship at R K Khan Hospital and community service at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital, she trained as a registrar in Anatomical Pathology within NHLS at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital (2012–2017). Since 2018 she has worked as a consultant pathologist across NHLS and private practice, including NHLS Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital, Lancet Laboratories in Durban, and NHLS Groote Schuur Hospital, before joining the Red Cross Children’s Hospital service in 2020. 

Her academic interests include paediatric and general surgical pathology, with peer‑reviewed publications spanning soft tissue tumours, paediatric renal tumours, infectious diseases, skin cancer presentation, hereditary exostoses, fibrolamellar carcinoma, and granulomatous amoebic encephalitis. At UCT she contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervises trainees, and supports multidisciplinary clinical teams.
