Prof Nelesh Govender

Professor Nelesh Govender is Professor and Director of the Wits Mycology Division in the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He is an NIHR Global Health Research Professor. He is also an honorary professor at the University of Cape Town, the University of Exeter and City St George’s University of London. 
He has been internationally recognised for his pioneering work in medical mycology and was elected as a 2024 Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and 2025 Member of the Academy of Science of South Africa.
