The MRC CMM is establishing CMM Units in regions of the world suffering high burdens of endemic fungal disease to increase regional capacity and research in medical mycology. The CMM AFRICA Unit was established in 2017 at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, and the CMM LATAM Unit was created in 2023 at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The CMM unit in South-East Asia (CMM SE ASIA) will follow in 2026.
The FAILSAFE project is an initiative led by the MRC CMM, dedicated to combating the escalating threat of fungal antimicrobial resistance (fAMR). FAILSAFE’s core mission is to create sustainable, impactful health solutions that drive lasting change in the global fight against fungal disease and antimicrobial resistance, with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where antifungal resistance poses the greatest risk.
The project established the CMM-FAILSAFE Network, a platform to enable the global medical mycology community to collaborate, communicate, share opportunities and exchange knowledge.
