Heide Kunzmann

MNur (Child Nursing), PG Dip(Crit Care Child), Dip(Nurs Management), RN

Heide is a Clinical Educator at the CNDU, with a particular focus on the training of the Masters students as Paediatric Advanced Practice Nurses. She has been a dedicated children’s nurse since 2006. She spent 10 years in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, and since 2018 has worked in a private eight-bed PICU in Cape Town. A clinician at heart, Heide is deeply committed to understanding how systems function and to ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. This passion inspired her to complete her Master in Nursing in Child Nursing in 2017.

Heide has long been involved in training and mentorship. She began serving as a clinical mentor in the Red Cross PICU in 2007 and became the training facilitator in 2012. During that time, she collaborated with the ‘Best Care Always’ team to implement care bundles aimed at preventing hospital-acquired infections. Following her master’s degree, she also contributed to research focused on healthcare systems improvement.

At the heart of Heide’s work is a genuine love of learning and sharing knowledge. She finds great fulfilment in helping colleagues, parents, and children understand why care practices matter - empowering others through insight, compassion and clear communication.
