Ms Heide Kunzmann

Lecturer

MNur (Child Nursing), PG Dip(Crit Care Child), Dip(Nurs Management), RN

Heide has been a children’s nurse since 2006.  She worked in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital for 10 years and in a private 8 bed PICU in Cape Town since 2018. Heide is a clinician at heart and passionate to understand how systems work and ensure quality care for patients. It is this passion that led to her completing the Masters in Nursing in Child Nursing programme in 2017.

Heide was a clinical mentor from 2007 in the Red Cross PICU and in 2012 became the training facilitator in the PICU. During that time she also worked with the Best Care Always team to implement bundles in the PICU to prevent hospital-acquired infections. After the Masters programme she did some research work in healthcare systems.

At the centre of her clinical work is the desire to always learn more and she absolutely loves to translate her knowledge to her colleagues, to the parents of the children and the children. It is very important to her that people understand and have insight to why they do what they need to do.
