Wellcome Fellowship for Dr Rohlwink
In 2014, Dr Ursula Rohlwink was awarded a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust-Clinical Infectious Diseases Research Initiative (CIDRI) after completing her PhD on novel biomarkers of neurological tissue injury and inflammation in paediatric tuberculous meningitis.
With this award she continues her work on paediatric TBM with a focus on examining the transcriptomic profile at the site of disease using cerebrospinal fluid and brain tissue samples.
Based in the Paediatric Neurosurgery Unit at Red Cross Children’s Hospital (RCCH) and working with collaborators at CIDRI, Dr Rohlwink has the opportunity to combine innovative bench and bedside research in examining a common and potentially devastating illness.
Dr Rohlwink hopes to use the skills and expertise gained through this project to generate further insights into other research projects she is involved in at RCCH, including traumatic brain injury, brain infection and cancer.
