Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction at the Global Platform
Shaun Grech, Honorary Associate Professor at IDEA and Senior Academic Consultant with Christian Blind Mission, CBM) launched the report entitled: Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction at the Global Platform: Critical Insights and Good Practices from the Field at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Bali, convened and organized by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

The report authored by Grech and jointly published by CBM and IDEA, reports findings from 5 at-risk countries (Niger, Philippines, Haiti, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe). Presented and launched at this high-profile event, the report responds to the fact that persons with disabilities are increasingly vulnerable in disaster contexts, and are among those most likely to perish. It also responds to the fact that they are disproportionately excluded or marginalised in disaster preparedness and response.

Presenting a number of good practices from field practitioners, this offering serves as a major resource for those working on programmes in disaster risk reduction (DRR) seeking to include disability in their work, as well as an advocacy tool for those lobbying to mainstream disability in broader DRR efforts.
