Mr Waheed Amanjee

Waheed Amanjee is an enterprising fourth year intercalated medical student at the University of Cape Town. He graduated in 2023 with First Class Honours in Bioinformatics, where his thesis explored the genetic predictors of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal suppression in children undergoing corticosteroid therapy.

 As a co-founder of WiZmed, Waheed has played a pivotal role in making quality medical equipment accessible and affordable to students and professionals across Africa. He also co-founded the African Research Society, which is dedicated to inspiring and empowering the next generation of African researchers to tackle significant continental issues.

Previously, he served as Head of Research at the UCT Surgical Society in 2022 and as a Journal Reviewer at Youth Stem Matters International Journal. Currently, as an RAI Fellow in UCT’s Global Surgery Division and a collaborator with the Reach Alliance at the University of Toronto, Waheed’s research advocates for maternal healthcare services for unhoused women, emphasizing his commitment to systemic advocacy in public health. As an emerging clinician-scientist-entrepreneur, Waheed is continuously driven to seek innovative solutions to complex healthcare challenges in Africa and beyond.
