The first COG-Train Online course “The Power of Genomics to Understand the COVID-19 Pandemic” will launch on Monday  (7th February 2022).

This course will cover a broad introduction to viral sequencing and COVID-19 genomics for a non-specialist audience. The concepts explained in this course could be useful to students and researchers across the life sciences, and media teams who want to know more about genetic concepts, and policymakers who want to know more about the role of genomics in the public health response to COVID-19.The course is completely free and runs for 3 weeks.

The course will cover:

  • The differences between a pandemic, an epidemic, and an outbreak
  • The basics of DNA, RNA, and the SARS-CoV-2 genome
  • The basics of sequencing and tracking viral spread
  • An introduction to the production of vaccines and therapeutics
  • How genomic knowledge can be applied to pandemic decision-making
