Prof Lubbe Wiesner

Laboratory Director

Professor Lubbe Wiesner leads the Clinical Pharmacokinetics Laboratory at the University of Cape Town, where he heads bioanalytical and pharmacokinetic research supporting global drug development and diagnostic programmes. As a laboratory clinical pharmacologist by training, he manages a versatile LC-MS/MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry platform. He advises industry and academic partners on assay development for infectious disease therapeutics and emerging biomarkers.  

Beyond the laboratory, Lubbe is an active educator and mentor. He has supervised many postgraduate students, teaches advanced courses in clinical pharmacology, and enjoys translating complex analytical challenges into clear learning experiences. His current interests include HIV and tuberculosis pharmacokinetics, TB biomarkers, and multiplex assays for neurodegenerative diseases. Lubbe’s aim is straightforward yet ambitious: to deliver rapid, reliable data that enhances patient care while fostering the development of the next generation of analytical scientists.
