Ruben van de Venter
PhD Student
Ruben is a PhD student in the Pharmacometrics Group, having joined in April 2025.
He holds an MSc in General Health Sciences (Pharmacy) from Nelson Mandela University. His postgraduate research focused on developing an optimised insulin resistance induction model using myotubes and hepatocytes, evaluating the antidiabetic potential of phytochemicals and their synergy with metformin.
After completing his MSc, Ruben practised as a pharmacist for a year while exploring research opportunities, during which he developed a strong interest in pharmacometrics. His current PhD research focuses on population pharmacokinetic modelling in TB/HIV treatment, with a particular focus on drug–drug interactions.
