Noha Abdelgawad

PhD Student

Noha is a PhD Student and joined the Pharmacometrics Group in October 2019.

She holds a master’s degree in Pharmaceutics and a bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Helwan University in Egypt. After graduating, she worked as a pharmacokineticist in bioequivalence centres for six years.

Her research focuses on tuberculosis (TB) and the use of nonlinear mixed-effects modelling to describe the PK/PD of drugs used in TB patients.

Research projects

Noha is currently involved in several different projects including:

  • PopPK modelling of rifampicin and linezolid in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in adults with tuberculosis meningitis (TBM)
  • PopPK modelling of rifampicin in plasma, CSF, and brain extracellular fluid in children with TBM
  • PopPK modelling of rifampicin, isoniazid, and pyrazinamide in hospitalised TB patients versus outpatients
  • Pharmacometric approaches to adherence assessment
  • Simulations to inform weight-based dosing of first-line anti-TB drugs
  • PopPK modelling of anti-TB drugs in central nervous system tissues from a preclinical rabbit TBM model

Research interests

  • Nonlinear mixed-effects modelling to develop PK/PD models
  • Statistical analysis using R
  • Optimal designs
  • Bioequivalence
