Manna Semere Gebreyesus
PhD Student
Manna is a PhD candidate at the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, University of Cape Town, and is doing her PhD thesis in the Pharmacometrics group.
Manna has a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and an MPhil degree in Clinical Pharmacology. Her interest in pharmacometrics started during the course component of her MPhil degree when she studied pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics in drug development. Her research focuses on applying population pharmacokinetic modelling for dose optimization in children and pregnant women.
Research projects
Manna is part of the research team on the following study:
- Population pharmacokinetics of esomeprazole in patients with early-onset preeclampsia
- Optimizing dose of cefazolin for use as antibiotic prophylaxis in paediatric patients < 25 kg undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass
- Rifabutin pharmacokinetics among HIV/TB co-infected children receiving lopinavir/ritonavir
- Optimizing treatment of community acquired pneumonia for paediatric patients in a Sub-Sahara African setting
Research interests
- Application of PK/PD modelling for diseases in pregnant women and children
