Rentia Lourens

Rentia joined our group as an intern in October 2025 and has since continued with the group as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

She holds a BSc from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and completed her BMedSc (Honours), MSc, and PhD at the University of Cape Town. Her doctoral research focused on the use of microdialysis in ventricular cerebrospinal fluid to investigate pharmacokinetics in paediatric tuberculous meningitis.

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Rentia's work now focuses on the population pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics of drugs used to treat multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. She also applies non-linear mixed-effects modelling to characterise tuberculosis biomarkers and investigate their potential role in predicting treatment response.
