Dr Marwa Aborass

Dr. Marwa Aborass is a distinguished dentist and esteemed lecturer specializing in Craniofacial Biology, Pathology, and Radiology at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Western Cape (UWC). She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Dentistry from Aljabal Algharbi University in Libya, laying the groundwork for her illustrious career.

Continuing her academic journey, Dr. Aborass pursued a Master of Science in Oral Medicine & Periodontology at the Faculty of Dentistry, UWC, South Africa. Currently a Ph.D. student in the Oral Medicine & Periodontology Department at UWC, she is currently completing her PhD titled "Level of inflammatory mediators associated with periodontitis in pre-eclampsia," in collaboration with the UCT Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and UWC. The aim of the study is to determine whether there is a significant association between periodontitis, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and pre-eclampsia in the Western Cape, South Africa.

Alongside her academic roles, Dr. Aborass serves as the Oral Biology Module Coordinator for OBI210 at the Faculty of Dentistry, UWC. Additionally, she manages the Oral Oncology Clinic, contributing to exceptional patient care.

Dr. Aborass is an active member of esteemed professional organizations, including the African Society of Human Genetics (AFSHG) and the South African Society of Human Genetics (SASHG). She is also a proud member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).
