Joey Carollissen is currently an MSc (Med) student in the Cardiovascular Genetics group at the Cape Heart Institute (CHI), University of Cape Town (UCT). In 2023, she completed her BHSc degree as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, specializing in Cytogenetics (HPCSA registered). Her current research involves investigating the functional significance of a novel variant identified in a South African family with Dilated Cardiomyopathy. She is supervised by A/Prof Gasnat Shaboodien (CHI & Division of Cardiovascular Genetics, UCT), A/Prof Shaheen Mowla (Division of Haematology, UCT) and Prof Ntobeko Ntusi (Department of Medicine, UCT).
