After obtaining his MBChB in 2011, Ryan has been working in internal medicine, clinical trials, and observational research. He was awarded a cotutelle Ph.D. scholarship from the Universities of Bristol, UK and Cape Town in 2019. The title of his thesis was: " Investigating the clinical epidemiology of kidney diseases using routinely collected administrative data and proteomics". In his postdoctoral work, he now leads a study investigating multiple myeloma diagnostic delay and missed diagnoses.
