Postdoctoral Research Fellow

CHI research group: Global Medicine and General Health (GMGH)

Shandré Pillay is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow based at the Institute of Infectious Disease & Molecular Medicine (IDM) in the Division of Immunology, Department of Pathology, University of Cape Town and Affiliated Member at the CHI. She holds a PhD in Clinical Sciences and Immunology. Her research focuses on investigating host-pathogen interactions which contribute to the development of tuberculosis and using host-directed therapy to augment host immunity. In particular, her research focuses on the role and antisense oligonucleotide targeting of non-coding RNAs in mouse and human macrophage polarization during Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection to develop an adjunctive drug therapy.

 Research engagements:

·         Targeting non-coding RNAs as host-directed drug therapy for tuberculosis

·         Epigenetics in host immunity to tuberculosis

·         Single cell immunology

·         Novel anti-mycobacterial agents
