Dr Rowan Duys

Rowan Duys is a specialist anaesthetist in the University of Cape Town Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, and the Director of Implementation, UCT Global Surgery.
He leads the UCT-Dräger African Development Initiative which aims to improve patient outcomes through unleashing the human potential in the healthcare system. His clinical interests lie in Obstetric Anaesthesia and Chronic Pain management. His passion is public health improvement through human development.
Rowan launched Project TeamCare in 2017, a Quality Improvement and Capacity Building vehicle for bringing about practice change within Groote Schuur Hospital and the Global Surgery in Action project in 2019 that aims to increase surgical service delivery in rural district hospitals. His research interest is the convergence of mobile digital technology, experiential learning and behaviour change science in the Global Surgery context.
He tweets at @healthink and would like to be remembered as the father of three girls who also ran slowly up mountains.
