Aida Kawuma
Aida is a PhD Student and joined the pharmacometrics group in February 2019.
She holds a master’s degree in Pharmacology and a bachelor’s degree of science in Pharmacy from Makerere University, College of Health Sciences in Uganda.
Aida has previously applied modelling techniques to study efavirenz central nervous system side effects in African patients, as well as the dosing of a novel monoclonal antibody in a drug development setting.
Her studies currently focus on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of dolutegravir, a new anti-retroviral agent that has been widely adopted across Africa.
Research Projects:
Aida is part of the research team on the following studies:
-
Dolutegravir population pharmacokinetics in co-administration with Rifampicin (RADIO)
-
Pharmacokinetics of dolutegravir in co-administration with artemisinin based antimalarial drugs in healthy volunteers.
-
Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamics of dolutegravir and Tenofovir in an African HIV population (ADVANCE)
-
Aida also coordinates the day to day activities for Pharmacometrics Africa, a not-for-profit platform for interested groups to establish and run open access quantitative clinical pharmacology educational programs in partnership with local research organisations and academic groups.
Research interests:
PK/PD modelling of HIV drugs in Africa population.
Drug-drug interactions.
