The Vaccines for Africa Initiative (VACFA) is an academic unit founded in 2009 by Professor Gregory Hussey, who has been the Director until 2021. The VACFA unit is in the Department of Public Health, within Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town.
VACFA has built an extensive and well-established network of stakeholders who have a shared goal of increasing awareness and promoting uptake of vaccines on the African continent. The VACFA website is a vaccine advocacy platform. The information on the VACFA website is aimed for diverse audiences that includes health professionals, policymakers, program managers, caregivers, and the general public. As an academic unit, VACFA supports in the training of postgraduate students.
