The Importance of Vaccinations
Editorial note: This short TikTok video was created by postgraduate students in the Division of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Shehani Perera and Natasha Kannemeyer and highlights the importance of vaccinations.
Living in a digital age with the widespread use of social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and now TikTok - as means of communication and connection, we have seen an increase in the use of these platforms, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic with people being unable to be together in person. These digital social media platforms are also mechanisms to deliver health promotion messages.
This TikTok video presents four reasons why vaccinations are important. It was produced as part of a competition run by the Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA) 2022 conference held in September this year. It illustrates the ability of TikTok as a health promotion platform to deliver short and to the point health messages. It may also be a way to disseminate health information and research.
