Wearables and sleep: the potential for orthosomnia

Associate Professor Dale Rae
A/Prof Dale Rae (PhD) is an Associate Professor in the Division of Physiological Sciences within the Department of Human Biology, and the the Health through Physical Activity, Lifestyle and Sport Research Centre, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town (UCT). She holds a PhD from UCT (2007) and is a C2 rated scientist (South African National Research Foundation). Her research focuses on sleep and circadian rhythms, and she is especially interested in how sleep is associated with health (obesity, cardiometabolic diseases, HIV) and performance (workplace and athletic), spanning adolescents to older adults, computer gamers, low-income adults living in urban and rural settings and corporate employees. She currently leads six local research projects, and works on international studies funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Newton Fund.
Our in-person meeting will be in held in Classroom 1 on the third floor of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. For those watching online, we have a zoom link below. The meeting starts at 10:30 am. We will spend the first 10-15 minutes on announcements (grants, publications etc) and research centre business. The webinar starts at 10.45am. For those who are only joining us for the webinar presentation remotely, please only join at 10:45am. Please note we have one zoom link for both meetings.
