Join us this Friday: Dr Tanja Oosthuyse will give a talk on 

 

"Easing the physiological load of competitive endurance cycling with protein ingestion during exercise"

Dr Tanja Oosthuyse is an honorary lecturer in the Division of Physiological Sciences at UCT and an honorary researcher for Wits School of Physiology. Tanja completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the School of Physiology at Wits. Her PhD investigated the effect of the menstrual cycle on exercise performance and metabolism using stable isotopic tracers and was supervised remotely by A/Prof Andrew Bosch. Tanja currently resides in Cape Town and conducts research within the HPALS Research Centre. Tanja’s current research focus includes nutrition, metabolism and performance in competitive cyclists while considering concerns for long-term cardiac and bone health, with additional insights of sex-specific and menstrual phase-specific effects. In keeping with these research interests, Tanja is also an avid mountain biker.
 

Our in-person meeting will be in held in Classroom 1 on the third floor of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. For those watching online, we have a zoom link below. The meeting starts at 10:30 am. We will spend the first 10-15 minutes on announcements (grants, publications etc) and research centre business. The webinar starts at 10.45am. For those who are only joining us for the webinar presentation remotely, please only join at 10:45am.  Please note we have one zoom link for both meetings.
