About Our Speaker
A Professor of Public and Industry Understanding of Capability Driven Design. A Strategic Design Executive Consultant of user-centred design, design engineering, and product design development exploiting assistive technology solutions for social and commercial innovations. Professor Morris provides efficient strategic insight and comprehensive expertise on Design for Development, Disability, and Design for All in Society projects, including demonstrating an emphasis on working collaboratively and collegially using person-centered skills and technical knowledge. Shaping the implementation of Sen’s Capability approaches to incremental, fundamental, and radical change for colleagues in education, product, system, and service design. In industry, pioneering the establishment and implementation of a ‘non-deficit’ development, the “Capability Plus” model of partnership and co-creation using information-source materials. Advocating in the industry for the importance of working creatively to understand individual, community, and organisation capabilities. Spearheading new campaigns and initiatives to work towards practical, successful cultural change, commitment, and impact. From a background in business, academia, and the creative sector I facilitate the balance, advocate for stakeholders to ‘stop and think’, before they act.
The focus of my research and consultancy is on INFORMATION SYSTEMS FOR ORGANISATIONAL & BUSINESS SECURITY: capacities to prevent, prepare for, detect, and respond. I use capability-driven design to explore person-centered design, service, and system solutions that take account of users’, organisations, and stakeholders’ capabilities. I interpret capability to include both the characteristics of individual people and the groups, environments, and communities where they live and work (including individuals’ skills, abilities, and aspirations) and the information resource material that is available to them to help them succeed. The people and organisations I want to work with include international and diverse people, individuals, communities, and organisations with unmet needs (national, global, supernational), professionals in the UK, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Global South. The focus is on the information needs of persons in key populations (KPs) in community, business, government, and individual situations. The executive consultancy aims to improve the quality of life for professionals who design, implement, lead, and manage change globally by helping them better understand the information-processing systems, interruptions to workflow, interactions, and information acquisition behaviours in human activity, which demonstrably support marginalised communities, international and diverse people, individuals, communities, and organisations with unmet needs.
