Current and Future Interventions for Obesity
Biosketch: Dr Alastair Duncan RD PhD FHEA, is a Consultant Dietician based at the Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital and King’s College, London. He will be visiting UCT between 24 to 26 July 2024. His presentation will focus on current and new lifestyle, pharmacotherapy and surgical interventions for obesity, including horizon scanning for the new GLP-1 RA medicines and results from recent intervention trials. Alastair has worked as a dietitian in the UK specialising in HIV care, diabetes and obesity for almost 30 years. In London, Alastair leads a 42-strong multidisciplinary team delivering over 40,000 appointments annually to people living with complex obesity. His research interests include managing comorbidities associated with HIV infection, digital interventions for obesity, and addressing health inequalities. In 2007 he was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to exchange information about HIV nutrition, spending time in the Cape, as well as KZN, Botswana and Lesotho.
Our in-person meeting will be in held in the auditorium on the ground floor of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. For those watching online, we have a zoom link below. The meeting starts at 10:30 am. We will spend the first 10-15 minutes on announcements (grants, publications etc) and research centre business. The webinar starts at 10.45am. For those who are only joining us for the webinar presentation remotely, please only join at 10:45am. Please note we have one zoom link for both meetings.
