UCT professor awarded global research award

UCT’s Prof Petrus de Vries (right) receives the 2021 international Bourneville Prize for his ongoing research into tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).

Prof de Vries won this award for "his unique gift to explain the complex problems of TSC in an inspiring way to parents and patients as well as to scientists. For his involvement in, drawing attention to and contribution to research into neuropsychiatric problems in TSC”, which was inscribed on the award. The award is named after Désiré-Magloire Bourneville, a 19th century French neurologist who identified the first case of TSC, and is only awarded every 5 years. Well done Prof de Vries!
