CHI research group: Cardiovascular Genetics

Kayla Wagenaar is currently an MSc (Med) student in the Cardiovascular Genetics group at the Cape Heart Institute (CHI), University of Cape Town (UCT). In 2022, she completed her BMedSc honours degree, specialising in Human Genetics. Her current research involves investigating the functional significance of a novel variant identified in a South African family with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and are supervised by A/Prof. Gasnat Shaboodien (CHI & Division of Cardiovascular Genetics, UCT), A/Prof Shaheen Mowla (Division of Haematology, UCT) and Prof Ntobeko Ntusi (Department of Medicine, UCT).
