CHI research group: Global Medicine and General Health (GMGH)
Bongani Motaung completed his BSc degree (Biochemistry and Microbiology) and Honours Degree (Microbiology) at the University of Fort Hare, Alice Campus. He later completed his MSc (Molecular Biology) degree at Stellenbosch University, Tygerberg campus focusing on immunological responses during TB disease. He is currently enrolled at the University of Cape Town, Division of Immunology for his PhD studies under supervision by A/Prof Reto Guler. His PhD studies focuses on understanding immunological responses in relation to persisting lung inflammation after completion of anti-TB treatment. His study will lead to the identification of host signatures which may be targeted for better treatment outcomes and subsequent prevention of TB-relapse. His research interests are in further exploring and understanding host immunological responses in different communicable disease settings.
