Dr Ashleigh Taylor completed her MBBCh studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. After internship and community service, she spent three years in mental health in the government sector in Johannesburg. These years were mainly at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Helen Joseph Hospital with some shorter durations spent in the community health centers and district hospitals. In early 2022 she did part- time tutoring at Wits UUME (Unit for Undergraduate Medical Education). Ashleigh then spent the next two years as a sub-investigator at Wits- VIDA (Vaccine and Infectious Diseases Analytics). It was at this time that Ashleigh found her passion for clinical trials medicine. After moving to Cape Town at the start of 2024, she joined the General Medicine & Global Health (GMGH) research group as a sub-investigator.

Research engagements:

  • The investigational M72/AS01E-4 Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) vaccine and its efficac 
  • Cardiopulmonary sequelae after successful treatment of TB treatment completion  
  • Atorvastatin to reduce persistent lung inflammation after successful TB treatment completion
