Nourishment and Neurodevelopment Video: The Importance of Nutrition for Your Child’s Brain Health
This educational video is focused on maternal health in pregnancy and child development, with a particular focus on nutrition and iron deficiency. Based on the workshop feedback, the objective was for this resource to be aimed at mothers and caregivers with practical information on local, familiar, and accessible food products from South African grocery stores. The content for this video was informed by reciprocal dialogue between our team of researchers with expertise in child development, mothers from the Gugulethu community who are invested in finding viable solutions, and a dietician who is familiar with the common practices, practical considerations, and challenges experienced by mothers in this context. Our aspiration is that this will foster the dissemination of key messages across South African communities with the recognition of mothers and caregivers as key stakeholders and important voices for community-led knowledge sharing. The video is entitled “Nourishment and Neurodevelopment: The Importance of Nutrition for Your Child’s Brain Health” and is available in three South African languages (English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa).
