Ms Naledi Mohale

Naledi Mohale is a 5th year medical student at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

She strongly believes that healthcare and politics cannot be separated, as politics greatly affects the quality of healthcare.

She has also shown a keen interest in politics and advocacy, which has seen her being heavily involved in student governance during her time at UCT. She was the Deputy Chairperson of the Health Sciences Students’ Council (HSSC) in 2022, the Chairperson of the HSSC in 2023 and the Deputy Chairperson of the UCT Undergraduate Academic Sub-Council in 2023.

She served as a mentor for the students of the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2021 and 2022 and is currently the Head Mentor at her residence. She is a strong advocate for amplifying youth voices and as such, she decided to bring the art of debating to UCT residences by starting the UCT Inter-Res Debating League in 2024.

Her interests also include medical education and in 2023, she was one of a handful of undergraduate students to present at the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) Conference in

Glasgow, Scotland. Her interests in healthcare and governance transcend the borders of South Africa and she has been serving as a member of the Policy Advisory Council for the Federation of African Medical Students’ Associations since

2022.

She currently also serves as the Chairperson of the UCT Constitutional Committee. Her strides in leadership have seen her been awarded four UCT Student Leadership awards – two team awards for the HSSC in 2022 and 2023 as well as two individual awards for her own work as a student leader.
