Dr Ravi Oodit
Ravi is the perioperative lead at UCT : Global Surgery. He is a general surgeon, with an interest and passion in developing a collaborative approach to improving the quality of perioperative care and establishing a patient cantered, evidence based, data driven, innovative service delivery platform in perioperative care for LMIC’s.
He is the African for the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Program (ERAS). Ravi has led the establishment of the first 2 ERAS Centres on the African Continent. Pilot projects have been completed and scale up is being tested in the private and public sector.
In collaboration the ERAS Society and perioperative leads form South Africa, South America and the Philippines and funding from the World Bank, Ravi has led the developed of the first perioperative care guidelines for primary and secondary hospitals in LMIC’s for elective abdominal and pelvic surgery. Currently plans are underway to develop a contextually relevant database and monitoring and evaluation tool for LMIC’s and scale up is being planned.
