Formal Undergraduate Teaching as part of the FHS curriculum
The Division teaches Neurosurgery as part of a combined Neurosurgery / Neurology four-week block to MBBCh V students.
Topics include an approach to raised intracranial pressure, as well as a working overview of traumatic brain injury, lobes and brain function, CNS tumours, basic vascular and basic spine neurosurgery, approach to craniofacial pain and red flags in neurosurgery.
Elective student rotations
The Division hosts a number of elective students throughout the year, both national and international. Student engagement in shadowing trainees on ward rounds and intakes is encouraged, as is attending operative cases with the various specialties, and joint all academic meetings and activities.
