Dr Andrew Appiah-Baiden

Born in Ghana and raised in South Africa, Andrew completed his undergraduate studies with distinction at UCT between 2008-2013, also becoming a member of the Golden Key Academic Society. He completed his internship, community service and 1 year as a general surgery medical officer in the East Rand of Johannesburg prior to starting his Neurosurgical career as a Medical officer at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Durban in 2018. Thereafter he obtained his Neurosurgery registrar position at UCT in 2020 which provided the opportunity to take on an MMed research topic related to demographics and outcomes in Paediatric patients with severe traumatic brain injury and ultimately to writing and passing his final neurosurgical examinations and obtaining his FC Neurosurg (SA) qualification in second semester examinations in 2023. His academic interests include Adult Neuro-Oncology, Neurospine and Neurotrauma.
