As part of a recent event on cell mechanics and mechanobiology organised by BMBL, an international consortium led by Prof Thomas Franz met with the UK Minister of Science and Universities, Rt Hon David Willetts MP. During the meeting held at UCT on 12 September 2013, consortium members discussed a UK-SA initiative to enhance interdisciplinary research and innovation through targeted international collaborations. Particular focus of this initiative is the access to high-value multilateral research funding through a number of joint grant applications to advance understanding, prevention and regenerative treatment of chronic diseases.
