Ms Asande Vilane

Asande Vilane is a fifth-year medical student at the University of Cape Town with a passion for research and exercise. She graduated with distinction from the intercalated program, earning her BMedSc(Hons): Infectious Diseases and Immunology as the top student in her cohort.

As the founder of Medicine in Motion UCT and co-founder of the African Research Society, she actively fosters collaborative platforms for medical students. Additionally, she serves as an ASICS Front-runner.

Asande aims to leverage the RAI program to cultivate practical research skills that can address emerging clinical problems in the African healthcare landscape. Together with her colleague Naledi Mohale, she will be researching the experience of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) survivors within the South African healthcare system
