PhDs travel to research land

Professor Michael Samuel presented a workshop titled The PhD Research Process, jointly hosted by the Department of Health Sciences Education and the Department of Family Medicine on Thursday, 23 August 2019. It was attended by postgraduate students, supervisors and all interested in doctoral studies from both departments. He delved into topics such as the role of the PhD student and supervisor, the relationship between theoretical framework and methodology, the pragmatics of methodology and the importance of alignment.

Prof. Samuel also spoke about and demonstrated the use of Research Wheels, a marvellous tool for postgraduates and supervisors alike. These research wheels, designed by Professor Samuel, are used as a pack of cards to assist in understanding specific issues around different stages of the doctoral learning journey. The workshop inspired many to pursue doctoral studies and re-energized the PhD candidates in attendance on the day.
