Congratulations to Professor Wiesner
We are delighted to announce the well-deserved promotion of our laboratory director, Lubbe Wiesner from the position of Associate Professor to Full Professor. Professor Wiesner's dedication, outstanding contributions to pharmacological research, and commitment to scientific excellence in teaching have earned him this prestigious recognition.
As a supervisor to many past and present doctoral and masters students, Professor Wiesner has demonstrated his dedication to challenging and fostering students. His knowledge, bioanalytical skills, and insightful guidance have greatly shaped the academic development and improved the research methodology of all his students. He encourages critical thinking, independent work, and empowers students to take ownership of their research projects, all while maintaining an open-door policy.
Throughout his tenure as laboratory director, Professor Wiesner has instilled deep expertise in the clinical application of mass spectrometry and has maintained the laboratory to the highest standards. In addition, he has created a collaborative research environment with a focus on interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments or teams within our division. He actively encourages the exchange of ideas within our team and promotes a sense of camaraderie among students and staff.
Aside from his professional and academic qualifications, Professor Wiesner is also a compassionate and approachable director and supervisor. He is open about his belief that mental health should be a priority and truly cares about the personal and professional well-being of his students and staff.
As a team, we are incredibly proud of Professor Wiesner and believe that his expertise, enthusiasm, and leadership will undoubtedly continue to contribute to the academic community at the University of Cape Town.
