Dr Maggie de Swardt

Senior Lecturer: Interdisciplinary Palliative Care and Medicine

I serve as a palliative care specialist at the university and Groote Schuur hospital. My background includes a medical degree (MBChB), a Master's in Family Medicine, and post graduate diplomas in palliative medicine and health professionals education. I am passionate about improving patients' quality of life and I love teaching and training students and health care professionals in holistic, compassionate care for patients.

I focus on advancing palliative care practices to enhance patient comfort and quality of life. I'm particularly passionate about research that explosres holistic symptom management and innovative ways to improve end-of-life care. In my work, I aim to bridge compassionate clinical practice with evidence-based strategies to support both patients and their families.
